Inscribed by Johnson on the front free endpaper in 1923.

As a young man, Martin Johnson, eventually a world traveler and adventurer in his own right, accompanied Jack London and his wife Charmian London on his ketch "The Snark" that sailed all across the South Pacific, including Hawaii, from 1907 to 1909. Johnson was tasked with many jobs on the boat including cooking, photographing, and liberally documenting his and London's experiences, many of which were quite exhibitionist and of the time; still, this journey with London paved the way for Johnson's work as a travel documentarian whose notoriety is still felt today among adventure writers and beyond.
