Very good in original decorated leather-covered boards, all edges gilt, with light foxing to endpapers, faint rubbing to edges and spinal extremities, as well as some loss to head and foot of spine. Additionally, a previous owner has taped a photograph and a small news clipping to the signature page, as well as laid-in a photograph of the young Alice Liddell. Very good. Item #9679
Signed on an early front endpaper by Alice Hargreaves, the married name of Alice Liddell, on whom Lewis Carroll based “the original Alice.” Hargreaves notably resisted signing other editions of Carroll’s Alice books until a few years before her death in 1934. From a limited edition of 1,500, of which this is number 213. Additionally signed on the colophon by the book designer and binder Frederic Warde.
